Scott’s experience in mine development together with his strong hands on technical and operational background give him a keen ability to understand how to best establish and generate enduring value from green or brownfield assets. Scott was recently the Managing Director of a coal company and lead the acquisition and development of a greenfield coal mine in Australia and prior to this held various operational and leadership roles within the Thiess organisation.
Scott has a broad range of technical, operational and construction experience having worked in both underground and open cut operations across a range of commodities including coal, copper, lead zinc, iron ore and lithium.
He graduated with Honours in Mining Engineering from the University of Queensland in 1993 and completed an Executive MBA at Melbourne University and Kellogg School of Management.
Chief Operating Officer, Australia
Roy Coates was appointed COO Australia in December 2018 having previously held the position of Executive General Manager (Australian Operations) with Ausdrill since July 2015.
Roy holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree from the Camborne School of Mines (University of Exeter) and an MBA from Curtin Graduate School of Business. Roy has over 25 years mining industry experience working in both surface and underground mining operations in Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Roy is also a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and an Associate of the Camborne School of Mines (ACSM).
General Manager, Assets & Surface
Greg commenced with Ausdrill in March 2019 as the General Manager – Assets for Surface Operations in Australia and Africa.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) degree from the University of Wollongong and has over 20 years’ experience working predominantly for large Mining Services businesses including Leighton Contractors, HWE Mining and Thiess.
Greg’s career experience has encompassed all facets of asset management, where he was responsible for managing large mining fleets and asset support services for various commodities (Iron Ore, Gold, Nickel and Lithium).
